Johnson's 28 Points Power San Jose Past San Francisco, 68-60
SAN FRANCISCO — Hayley Johnson scored 28 points and grabbed six rebounds as San Jose City College defeated host San Francisco City College 68-60 in Coast Conference women's basketball action Thursday.
Johnson shot 11-for-23 from the field and added six assists to lead the Jaguars (16-8, 4-2), who built a 14-12 lead after the first quarter and never trailed. San Jose extended its advantage to 32-26 at halftime before holding off a late Ram rally.
Synis Byrd contributed 14 points, eight rebounds and four assists for the Jaguars, who shot 55.3 percent from the field. Kaydin Meyer added 10 points and eight rebounds, while Ember Navarro chipped in nine points and seven rebounds.
Daven Woodham scored five points and dished out five assists for San Jose, which dominated the glass with a 52-30 rebounding advantage. The Jaguars pulled down 25 offensive rebounds and limited their turnovers to 11.
Patriceia Walsh led San Francisco (10-12, 2-4) with nine points, seven rebounds and five assists. Stephanie Salazar added nine points and seven rebounds for the Rams, who struggled from the field at 36.5 percent.
June Lumumba scored 11 points and grabbed four rebounds off the bench for San Francisco. Jessie Chau contributed seven points and five rebounds, while Alexis Cornejo added 10 points in the losing effort.
The Rams shot just 22.7 percent from three-point range, connecting on 5 of 22 attempts. San Francisco was outscored 21-15 in the decisive third quarter and couldn't recover despite a 19-15 edge in the fourth.
